In this session, Mark will outline the key steps to finding the right person for your business: Recruiting for attitude first, and then training for skill. He will outline the process of successful recruitment and provide you with the guidelines for what you should be looking for in a potential employee and how to identify the best fit for your company's culture and values

Business owners often lament that they ran an ad and it didn't work. Usually advertising as a tactic or perhaps the media that the ad ran in is believed to be the culprit. In this session Debra will teach you the basics of advertising - reach, frequency, which media is best at various parts of the buying funnel, how to buy media, when to advertise, how advertising fits into your other marketing activity.   Managing your cash flow - at what price?
  David Wilson
  Expo Business Coach

Obviously you need money coming in, on a regular basis, to be able to pass some of it on to your suppliers. And much has been made of the importance of cash flow as a key indicator of the financial health of the business. But at the end of the day you need to make money. Some businesses, in closely monitoring their cash flow, and patting their accountant on the back for showing a loss to the tax man each year are missing the point that they are actually not making a profit. In this session, David will provide you with the tools to analyse what is really going on inside and out of your bottom line. Is it cash flow Vs profit...or cash flow + profit?

Coaching and mentoring - Setting a clear direction
  Mark Jones
  TRAC Consulting

There are two types of people who seek out a professional business coach or mentor. The first is the person who is already doing very well in his/her business and wants to identify what they are doing when at their peak, so they can duplicate that at will. The second type is the person who wants to learn more and better skills to improve their performance, communication skils, interpersonal skills and personal contribution.

In this seminar, Mark will outline the contribution that a coach or mentor can make to your business and to your staff. He will highlight the difference between these two methods and will provide an overview of the Guild of Mentors, based on the Sunshine Coast, whose members are well credentialed across all levels of business from Government, to SMEs and multi-nationals.

  The Work Life Balance
  Rosanna Natoli
  Sunshine Coast Business Womens Network
One of the reasons that most people choose to go into their own business is that they are doing it for 'lifestyle'. And no where is that more true than in areas such as the Sunshine Coast, where the whole environment tempts you with the range of possibilities that life has to offer outside of the daily nine to five.

But where does the style fit into the life when the small business owner is balancing the books, the customers, the kids, the partner - and still trying to fit in just one episode of Dancing with the Stars before it ends for this season?

Rosanna Natoli keeps her own television career, her interest in teaching journalism, her three children, a role as Lady Mayoress, and her membership of the Business Women's Network, all in the air at one time. She even finds time to present at our Expo. So, how do you effectively juggle various interests and responsibilities - and even some fun stuff every now and then - without dropping the ball?

In this seminar Rosanna will discuss the tools and the attitude that she applies to gently balance all that is important in her life.

For the business owner, who has chosen small business for the potential lifestyle, there will always be choices to be made - even sacrifices. But if you work at the balance - not just in the business - you can find the harmony that makes it all worthwhile.

What Women Want: Marketing to women
  Debra Templar
  Australian Retail Services

Women make or influence more than 80% of all consumer purchases in Australia, accounting for billions of dollars annually. Is your business doing absolutely everything it can to tap into this immense market? This seminar will help you see your brand through a woman's eyes, giving you the practical tools you need to develop products, services and marketing strategies that truly resonate with female buyers.

WWW unlocks the secret to gaining a bigger share of women's enormous buying power by revealing:

* What and how you should replace your current "visible" marketing, which merely tells women your product is "for them", with "transparent marketing" which focuses on what's actually important to the buyer.

* How women behave online, and how to take advantage of online resources to stay in touch with the women's market

* The different ways to segment the women's market, and how generational history, culture, life stages, degree of confidence with technology, and other factors influence a woman's buying mind.

* That how women buy can be even more critical than the product or service being sold.

An informative and challenging session - presented by a women who knows what she wants!

Your Business Brochure Vs your Capability Statement: A tool for attracting customers
  Mark White
  Business Maroochy
You probably have a brochure about your business that, obviously, highlights all the good bits - lots of broad sweeping statements, a reference to your successes, maybe highlighting special skills, your unique point of difference, contact details, glossy photos.  And as a brochure - part of your marketing collaterol - that is fine.

But when it comes to procurement, you need a quality Capability Statement.

This workshop will assist businesses to develop a current capability profile on their organisation - a specific profile that will be used by procurement officers. The workshop has been designed to introduce participants to what the larger procurers need to know about your business - before considering discussing their procurement needs with you. Mark will also provide a broad profile document that can assist both the internal operations and the external interested parties.

How to create a marketing strategy for your business
  Bambi Gordon
  The Woo
Most small business owners go about their marketing tactically. That is, business drops off or they have a special offer to promote, so they plan some advertising, or do a mail drop. Or it's that time of year and they re-book the telephone directory ad, or maybe the local media sales rep pops in to book the schedule for another seasonal sale.

There is nothing wrong with these tactics - but there is something wrong with tactical thinking that isn't based on strategic direction.

In this session learn how to create a simple four part marketing strategy for your business - a strategy that will provide you with the road map for all marketing activity into the future and a way to easily evaluate all those marketing opportunities or requests that come your way.

From here on your marketing activity will be on budget, on time, and on track to drive sales to your business.
